Building engagement through interactivity

Keeping with the short and punchy approach of the past couple of weeks, I present you with four sites and an interesting fact. The fact was passed to me by someone who heard that my son was going through Communion this year. Apologies for the caps, but it’s a simple cut and paste job.

Lascaux Caves – virtual tour
We are always looking for interesting ways to convey the sort of work that a candidate may be doing in a role. Imagine that you are looking to hire guides, archaeologists, historians – some of the roles we might look for with English Heritage, for example – this site is a great example of ‘show me, don’t tell me’. Some of the initial movement makes you feel ill, but this is a great, informative site that helps amateur enthusiasts like me get a great feel for what it is like working within the caves (The Lascaux Caves, for those of you who aren’t aware, is the setting of a complex of caves in southwestern France famous for its Palaeolithic cave paintings, discovered by four teenagers in the 1940s.)

National Geographic
I love National Geographic. As an archaeology buff, I enjoy the monthly features on archaeological sites, but what really gets me is the photography, which can be simply breathtaking.  We often talk about the power of the right photograph to convey brand messages and if you are ever trying to explain to clients why they should invest in the right imagery for their site, just come here.

(Also, I thought that Dixy might enjoy this )

Going Dutch
What I like about this site is that it makes the user work to find out information. You can navigate normally or for the more adventurous, you can take part in the various tasks that are hidden throughout the page. Just interacting with site builds a level of emotional engagement with the brand and you’ll learn more about Bio-Bak as an agency from what they have done, than by reading any literature. Mind you, I’m sure that many of you will hate the site…

Boone Oakley
It’s another agency website, but just as cleverly done. Great stuff…

LAS VEGAS CHURCHES ACCEPT GAMBLING CHIPS!!!
IT MAY ALSO COME AS A SURPRISE TO THOSE OF YOU NOT LIVING IN LAS VEGAS , BUT THERE ARE MORE CATHOLIC CHURCHES THAN CASINOS. NOT SURPRISINGLY, SOME WORSHIPERS AT SUNDAY SERVICES WILL GIVE CASINO CHIPS RATHER THAN CASH WHEN THE BASKET IS PASSED. SINCE THEY GET CHIPS FROM MANY DIFFERENT CASINOS, THE CHURCHES HAVE DEVISED A METHOD TO COLLECT THE OFFERINGS.THE CHURCHES SEND ALL THEIR COLLECTED CHIPS TO A NEARBY FRANCISCAN MONASTERY FOR SORTING AND THEN THE CHIPS ARE TAKEN TO THE CASINOS OF ORIGIN AND CASHED IN.

THIS IS DONE BY THE CHIP MONKS.
Didn’t see that coming, did you 🙂
