Application crazy!

We’ve gone app crazy at the moment, so I have been looking around for examples of this to help the Digital or Creative teams. The first two links sit firmly in that category, so unless you are interested in coding or the technical aspect of application development, I doubt they are going to be of interest. The last two cater for those who are interested in the power of UGC and crowdsourcing, or those who simply like to admire craftsmanship.

Open IDEO
IDEO is product design agency whose designers are hugely respected. Open IDEO is an online platform for creative thinkers: the veteran designer and the new guy who just signed on, the critic and the MBA, the active participant and the curious lurker. To become a place where good ideas gain momentum, OpenIDEO depends on participation — people inspirations, his comments, her concepts, our design process. It’s these efforts, these big and small moments of sharing and collaboration, that make this platform a dynamic resource for tackling significant global challenges.

It’s an intriguing concept that draws on crowdsourcing and user generated content to design better things for social good. But a cynic might accuse IDEO of getting other people to do their work for them at a zero sum cost. Which is why I thought the particular link, which focuses on raising children’s awareness of the benefits of fresh food, is a great example. Some of us are still idealists…
