Friday mail – chick, chick, chick, CHICKEN!

No prizes for guessing the theme of this week’s mail . On Wednesday, we were all brought together by some wonderful, morale-boosting news and it would be a travesty not to honour it with a few end-of-the-week online ramblings. So here goes: 200 words on Clokie’s bumper crop of maris pipers.

Oh, alriight, alright. If you must. Here’s a handful of interesting web thingys loosely strung together by a tenuous chicken theme – all inspired by Nando’s, our latest, scrummiest client.

First off is the rather wonderful subservient chicken. This was created for Burger King(boo hiss), but nevertheless five years on it’s still pretty nifty, not least because it ushered in a new genre of video-based interactive virals.

Early on in the creative process for Nando’s, Russ had the idea of strapping a camera to a chicken  and encouraging it to run around a restaurant. We all slapped him out of it, protesting it was far too impractical – deciding instead to create a 7 foot cockerel and transport it half way across London. Interestingly, though, the WWW shows a number of other enterprising folk have managed to make the idea of a chicken cam work, my favourite of which is hen.cam.

Our fact finding for the Nando’s pitch took Dixy to one of their kitchens and saw the rest of us visit  their brand agency, countless restaurants and the far flung corners of Youtube and Vimeo. There we found a whole host of nice Nando’s ads from around the world.

In South Africa, the brand expression is a little more Sid James than over here , which shows in TV spots like this one.  While over here listeners have been treated to a gaggle of funny radio ads, including the loveable little goat .

And finally, here’s  a little gem from Andy H, the perfect early Christmas gift for chicken-lovers everywhere. The one and only Nogg.
